A 15-year-old girl was left behind by her parents after she was down with Influenza A (H1N1).
The teenager, suffering from a high fever, was alone at her house in Singapore.
She has been taking instant noodles for the past two weeks.
The republic’s Lian He Zao Bao reported that the teenager, identified only as Laura, had gone to see a doctor for a high fever on Nov 22.
Two days later, she went for a blood test but before the result was out, her parents had moved out from their flat in Ang Mo Kio.
The parents - a 45-year-old housewife and 52-year-old tele-operator with a government agency, were worried that they might be infected if they lived with the daughter.
They were even so scared of going near the flat that they did not send any meals to the daughter.
Her parents had refused to comment but their nephew Paul told the daily that the husband and wife had reason to worry due to their age.
He said the couple was not young and worried that they could not be able to fight the disease if they were contracted.
“There are sufficient food in the fridge and Laura can take care of herself. She can cook instant noodles. It’s only for a short time,’’ he said, adding that the couple called their daughter daily.
Once she had recovered, they would move back, he said.
Although Laura’s friends have volunteer to send her food, she rejected the offer, saying that she had no appetite and did not want to trouble them.
“I can understand my parents’ worries. They wanted to take the vaccine but did not go after reading news of the side-effects.
“I hope to get well soon. I’m still having fever now,’’ she said, adding she would check her body temperature daily.
A doctor had told the daily that the parents had over-reacted.
He said anyone could live together with an Influenza A (H1N1) patient as long as they took the vaccine, practised good hygiene and wore a mask.
